Baby squirrels born Feb 26, 2023!

Baby squirrel(s) born this Sunday morning in SquirrelNest 9!

We are yet to identify the mother and the number of babies, but we are very happy to welcome them to our new SquirrelNest 9. Will be streamed here https://www.youtube.com/live/wd3LARNX... This nestbox was used by Spotted Twinkie until she got worried about the furniture and moved to Nest 1. Yes, Nest 1 was the nest of Rose, Hana’s daughter, and Rose tried to get it back but Twinkie was absolutely determined to make it her home. This new occupant in Nest 9 appeared just days ago, and she started nesting actively yesterday, ahead of the coldest day in weeks (we had snow yesterday!). We can see one baby when mother takes a quick breath of fresh air. There may be more under the nesting material. It is not typical for squirrels to have just one baby but it happens. May be she’s a first time mother? She does look young. But she knows how to hide her baby with bedding when she leaves the nest for longer that just a tunnel visit. We have several cameras inside and outside the nest and also under the tree; we will try to keep track of her movements. Enjoy!
